I would like to thank Council Members Soria, Arias, Maxwell, Chavez, & President Esparza for voting yes on August 18, to accept $9.5 million from the State of California for Arte Americas, Neighborhood Industries and Planned Parenthood Mar Monte.

I am now asking that Council Member Karbassi join with the 5 of you to stand against the hateful rhetoric, misinformation, & religious zealots demanding that the city refuse the money because they are opposed to any money going to Planned Parenthood. This is NOT about abortion. This is about $1.5 million for healthcare, especially healthcare for young people and the disadvantaged.

My sister and I used Planned Parenthood in the 70’s and my 2 daughters in the 90’s. None of us had abortions. We received female examinations & access to birth control, which is what planning for parenthood is all about! I am thankful Planned Parenthood found a lump in my daughter’s breast when she was 17. It was a benign cyst but could have been a life-threatening condition undiagnosed for years if not for Planned Parenthood. She also used their services 5 years ago when she was going through a divorce, had little money and poor insurance.

Do what is right and best for Fresno. Vote YES on Item 1.-Y., ID 22-1385. Override Mayor Dyer’s veto. Do not cave to pressure from religious & conservative zealots, their hateful agenda, misinformation, and war on medical privacy and women.
