My application for the Housing Retention Grant was denied and I am having trouble getting clear answers about the grant rules and guidelines. I have Zero income and I am now 2 months behind in rent. I am under Doctors orders to self quarantine due to COVID. With no income and being considered high risk for COVID I do not qualify for assistance.
The information that was given to the citizens of the City of Fresno was not very clear and in my opinion gives false hope. Multiple attempts were made to contact Miguel Arias. A call was received after the multiple attempts were made. Calls to Reading & Beyonce went completely unanswered. I feel the process to qualify should be re-evaluated or at least provide specific eligibility guidelines such as dates, income type, etc be given to the public. I also think more work should be made to streamline the eligibility process and be transparent with the citizens you serve. In a interview with ABC 30 Action News Councilwoman Esmeralda Soria states the City wants to be generous with the funding. Having applicants jump thru hoops and still continue to face eviction is far from generous in my opinion. As a citizen of this city I felt it was important you knew what was going on with the Housing Retention Program. It saddens me to know that there may be more people who were denied such essential assistance at a time like this. Thank you for your time.
