The people of Fresno demand significant decrease of funding for the police and instead investment in:
1.Housing programs for our homelessness issue
2.Mental health programs
3. Youth programs
4.Parks
These measures will decrease our need for police. We must stop treating police as social workers with guns. We should not expect them to solve our social ills like homelessness and domestic violence. There are other professionals better equipped to handle those problems.
In regards to the proposed budget, I demand the following in solidarity with communities of color in Fresno:
1. Divestment from police, investment in community, and re-imagining community safety
2. Housing for our people, keeping families together, and providing resources for the youth
3. Equipping our youth with skill developing, trauma informed, city-funded jobs. They need to be paid justly at a rate of $15/hr.
4. Making clean green spaces accessible and investing in neighborhood improvements for youth south of Shields Ave.
5. Making equitable investments in our community.
